Disneyland Paris, Franta – Partea a treia

A șaptea & o opta zi de vacanță

Am ajuns în jur de 5 PM într-o zi de luni la Hotel Sequoia Lodge, localizat chiar în renumitul parc de distracții, Disneyland Paris.

Hotelul este foarte fain, angajații extraordinar de prietenoși, serviciile per ansamblu impecabile. Am fost foarte plăcut surprinși de primire, iar Mara a primit la recepție o insignă Disney cu numele ei ca semn de bun venit în Disneyland. Nu a fost doar ea norocoasa zilei, având în vedere că nu apar camere cu balcon disponibile pentru rezervare și totuși după ce am cerut una am și primit-o :). Yupiii! Chiar sunasem la hotel înainte de a face rezervarea online să vedem dacă nu cumva se poate selecta una cu balcon iar răspunsul a fost că nu au asemenea camere disponibile pentru oaspeți. Surpriză, au, însă foarte puține. Lucky us, we got one! Nu aveam așteptări foarte mari având în vedere că parcul este unul destul de comercial, iar părerile sunt în general împărțite, însă ceea ce am văzut acolo a fost cu adevărat wow. E o locație pe care ne doream de mult să o vizităm însă am așteptat să crească Mara pentru a ne putea bucura împreună de loc. O dată ajunși acolo ne-am dat seama că suntem super entuziasmați și că abia așteptăm să ne plimbam, așa că după puiul de somn de 45 de minute al Marei am plecat rapid către parc. De fapt am trezit copilul că să putem prinde parada personajelor 😀 Părinți răi!

Hotelul Sequoia Lodge, este deschis încă din anul 1992 însă renovarile ulterioare își spun cuvântul. Este înconjurat de foarte multă vegetație, localizat chiar pe malul laculului Disney, iar interiorul construcției, deși clasic, ne-a făcut să ne simțim super bine :). Camera măricică și la fel decorată în stil american – clasic, cu tematică Disney (Bambi în camera noastră) evident, dispune de cele necesare inclusiv espressor Nespresso pentru cafea și kettle electric pentru ceai. Nu sunt fan Nespresso dar în lipsa unei cafele bune m-am sacrificat cu ceva un pic amar.

Deși încadrat oficial la categoria 3 stele, pot spune că atât atmosfera cât și serviciile disponibile în hotel îl aduc relativ ușor în topul 10 al clasamentului personal în ceea ce privește cazarea în străinătate. Nu am fost în US dar se poate vedea foarte ușor că ceea ce pot face americanii dintr-un hotel e un pic altceva.

Angajații din parc și din hotel sunt și ei foarte bine instruiți, aparent zâmbetul fiind parte din responsabilitățile menționate in fișa postului.

Oferta de cazare per total a fost chiar bună, având în vedere că achiziționarea separată a biletelor de acces în parc pentru toți 3 dar și a unității de cazare separat ar fi presupus un cost egal sau mai mare față de ceea ce am plătit noi. Nota bene, micul dejun plătit separat la Sequoia costă undeva la 100 de RON pe zi de persoană, destul de piperat aș zice.

Cazarea și biletele de intrare în parc au fost achiziționate direct pe site-ul Disneyland Paris, având norocul să beneficiem de o oferta bună pentru 2 nopți de cazare la Sequoia Lodge și bilete de intrare în ambele parcuri pentru 3 zile (35% discount total la pachet). În plus, am selectat opțiunea extra Golden Forest Club, care include micul dejun, băuturi non-alcoolice disponibile în bar până la ora 22:30, servicii mai rapide în recepție (separată de cea principala) dar și câte un acces pe zi de persoană Fast Pass în parc. Vă voi explica ce înseamnă asta și de ce e bine să ai așa ceva :). Prețul total al pachetului a fost de 900 EUR pentru toți 3 .

Un avantaj semnificativ al cazării în unul din hotelurile din parc constă în posibilitatea de a întâlni personajele Disney chiar la parterul hotelului, în fiecare zi având ocazia să te fotografiezi cu un alt personaj anunțat pe panourile speciale. Cum bucuria copiilor e de cele mai multe ori priceless ne-am bucurat mult să putem da mâna cu Pluto și cu Mickey Mouse. Cei mici care își serbează ziua de naștere în hotel, se pot bucura de altfel de prezența (scurtă) a personajului aflat în locație chiar la micul dejun.

Trebuie să recunosc, nu am profitat 100% de toate beneficiile mai sus menționate, dar prețul plătit extra a acoperit oricum ceea ce am fi achiziționat contra cost, prin urmare pot spune că am făcut o afacere bună. Nu e obligatoriu însă, pentru noi foarte important era de fapt micul dejun de care am fost foarte încântați din prisma varietății disponibile, de la ouă, șuncă, brânzeturi franțuzești și fructe până la checul cu tematică Marvel și alte produse proaspete de patiserie.

Dacă e să facem un calcul pentru ce am fi plătit doar pentru intrările în cele două parcuri, prețul separat ar fi fost 620 de EUR pentru toți 3 (pe 3 zile). În cei 900 de EUR pe pachetul achiziționat au intrat însă și cazarea precum și opțiunile extra menționate deja.

Facilități hotel

Facilitățile din cadrul hotelului sunt variate, singurul dezavantaj minor fiind faptul că piscina era închisă la începutul lunii Mai pentru renovări. Spun dezavantaj, nu pentru că asta conta foarte mult pentru noi, însă hotelul a informat oaspeții cu privire la acest aspect. Pentru cei pasionați de înot, menționez că piscina urmează să se redeschidă publicului în 31/07/2019.

Hotelul se află la zece minute de intrarea în parc (plimbare pe jos) ceea ce pentru noi a însemnat enorm. Am avut astfel ocazia să ne întoarcem în cameră pentru somnul de zi al Marei ca mai apoi să o luăm de la capăt cu distracția în parc până seara târziu. Pentru cei care nu își doresc să meargă pe jos, există bus-ul care te preia din fața hotelului gratuit și te lasă în stația principala de autobuz a parcului.

Pentru cei care doresc să facă o vizită parcului, există numeroase oferte care includ și bilete de avion din București, puteți urmări chiar site-ul oficial Disneyland pentru pachete early booking sau last minute. De altfel ei promovează deja ofertele faine pentru 2020. Agențiile din RO care oferă diverse pachete pentru parc sunt de asemenea ghidate de cele postate direct de către reprezentanții Disneyland Paris. Am verificat acest aspect 🙂

Există și alte variante bune de cazare, spre exemplu Disney’s David Crockett Ranch sau Les Villages Nature Paris însă ele sunt în afară parcului, iar prețul e apropiat de cele practicate în parc. Se poate ajunge cu mașina, trenul sau cu serviciile de transfer special puse la dispoziție de către resort-uri. Vizitatorii cazați în Paris, sau cei care locuiesc in afara Frantei insa calatoresc via tren, pot ajunge la Disneyland cu trenul din Gare de Nord – > RER B sau D direcția Chatelet Les-Halles, gara parcului fiind amplasată exact lângă intrare.

Ca informație suplimentară, în 2020 se va deschide un nou hotel ca parte din parc, este vorba despre Disney’s Hotel New York – Art of Marvel, amplasat bine, chiar la intrarea în parc. Fiind cel mai nou hotel din renumitul parc de distracții, sunt convinsă că vor veni cu oferte bune și vor oferi o experiență pe măsură.

Distracția din parcuri

Disneyland este localizat la 30 de km de Paris și este împărțit în două mari parcuri mai exact Disneyland Park și Walt Disney Studios, cel din urmă fiind deschis în anul 2002 la zece ani distanță față de primul. În 25 de ani a fost vizitat de aproximativ 320 de milioane de oameni și acum am înțeles de ce. Având peste 12.000 de angajați permanenți plus cei sezonieri, confirm că serviciile sunt impecabile indiferent de facilitatea pe care aceștia o deservesc -restaurante, hoteluri, magazine etc.

Cele două parcuri adăpostesc atracții minunate atât pentru copii cât și pentru adulți și că să fiu sinceră, le prefer în continuare pe cele pentru copii, marea lor majoritatea putând fi accesate în Disneyland Park, împărțit de asemenea în mai multe zone cu tematici diferite (Main Street, Adventureland, Discoveryland, Fantasyland, Frontierland). Având ocazia să mergem cu Mara acolo, ne-am bucurat din plin atât de experiență în sine cât și de bucuria ei sinceră din fiecare clipă. Și da, au fost câteva atracții pe care le-am testat doar noi adulții pe rând, nefiind neapărat preferate de cei mici ca ea (ex. Phantom Manor).

Pentru a face mai ușoară vizită în parc, va recomand aplicația Disneyland (disponibilă și AICI atât în App Store cât și în Google Play), care pe lângă faptul că îți oferă harta completă a celor două parcuri această îți și spune care este timpul de așteptare pentru fiecare atracție în parte. Timpul de așteptare nu e mereu 100% corect însă în mare parte e ok astfel că îți poți programa vizită în funcție de asta. Poți accesa meniurile restaurantelor din parc sau poți verifică atracțiile și programul spectacolelor sau al evenimentelor speciale.

Dacă vă povestesc cum a fost testarea primei atracții din parc…Nu am fost pe fază, grăbiți fiind să prindem câteva ture în prima seară după ce am ajuns, așa că ne-am trezit în Big Thunder Mountain toți 3 (a se vedea filmulețul accesând link-ul) :). Am crezut că e o plimbarică ușoară și evident nu a fost așa. Eu terifiată, Mara șocată însă cuminte cu mânuțele la ochi, tati fericit și cu gura până la urechi. Norocul nostru a fost că nu i s-a luat Marei de tot de parc după prima experiență. A tot menționat însă că primul tren nu este pe gustul ei și că nu ne mai dăm în el.

Nu voi lista toate atracțiile din parc, sunt foarte multe, vă las pe voi să le descoperiți o dată ajunși acolo 🙂 însă va voi lista topul personal, evident un pic diferit de al Marei sau de al lui Mugur după cum puteți vedea mai jos :). Atracțiile sunt minunate, costumele de excepție și decorurile așa cum le vezi în desene/filme sau așa cum ți le-ai putea doar imagina citind poveștile. Sonorizarea și ea spectaculoasă, redată de boxe Bose prezente atât în interiorul atracțiilor cât și în exterior. Nu mă așteptăm să ne distrăm atât de tare în căsuța lui Ratatouille sau în lumea lui Peter Pan, zburând printre stele cu ochelari 3D la ochi.

Nu am stat la cozi interminabile, din contră cred că singura așteptare un pic prea lungă a fost cea de la Studio Tram tour din Walt Disney Studios (40 de min). Mă așteptăm să fie mai aglomerat, poate că luna Mai totuși nu este cea mai busy din an. Ce a ajutat însă, a fost acel acces Fast Pass de care am beneficiat zilnic (un acces de persoană pe zi inclus în pachetul Golden Forest Club) și pe care l-am folosit pentru intrarea cu proritate la atracțiile unde coadă era un pic prea mare pentru noi. Fast Pass-ul îți garantează o intrare rapidă însă nu este disponibil pentru toate atracțiile din parc, fiecare loc semnalizand de altfel disponibiltatea acestei opțiuni extra.

De neratat sunt paradele zilnice ale personajelor, care încep la ora 17:30 și durează aproximativ o ora, scenetele Guardians of the Galaxy (11:25 și 12:30 zilnic) sau Marvel cu super eroi și spectacolele de seară organizate după ora închiderii parcului (Disney Illuminations – proiecții de lumini pe fundal muzical vizibile din Main Street și urmate de un minunat spectacol de artificii). Mai multe informații despre evenimentele și spectacolele din parcuri puteți găsi AICI, însă programul se poate modifică pe parcursul anului.

O atracție pe care am uitat să o bifăm este casă dragonului sau La Taniere du Dragon, la intrare fiind postat un mare mesaj cum că “It may frighten younger kids” așa că am mers mai departe. O altă atracție de care nu ne-am bucurat însă de dată asta de frică, a fost Twilight Zone Tower of Terror din Walt Disney Studios unde poate am fi intrat dacă o puteam face împreună. Este exclusă posibilitatea de intră cu copilul prin urmare lăsăm locul pe lista de TO DO pentru dată viitoare când ajungem acolo și când Mara va fi probabil destul de mare să se poată “bucura” de teroarea promisă. Sau poate o să fie fricoasă că mami și o ratăm din nou :).

Parcurile sunt pline de magazine, nu te poți ascunde nici dacă vrei. Recunosc, așa ceva nu am văzut vreodată și nici nu credeam să existe un loc cu atât de multe magazine pe metru pătrat. De la cele cu tematică Mickey la cele care vând căni sau perne cu toate personajele create vreodată. Comercială treaba, e clar, dar parcă nu m-a deranjat așa cum mă deranjează tarabele de lângă Castelul Bran. Bucuria copiilor, dar și a adulților evident, mai puțîn când trebuie scos portofelul. Noi am scăpat cumva “ieftin” aș zice față de ceea ce am văzut in jur, urechile de Minnie pentru mine și Mara fiind evident achiziționate chiar din prima seară petrecută în parc muhahaha.

Mancarea

Mâncarea e subiect picant sau hot în casă noastră dar voi știți asta deja :). Prin urmare știam cumva că nu o să fie chiar pe gustul nostru. Mai toate restaurantele au că parte din meniu clasicii burgeri americani, paste cu chiftele lipsite de gust, cartofi prăjiți și inele de ceapă crocante :D. Având în vedere că majoritatea localurilor prezintă într-un fel sau altul cam aceeași oferta de meniu, am decis totuși să încercăm Rainforest Café la cina din prima seară în parc. Restaurantul face parte din Disney Village, zona cu restaurante și cinema a parcului, un local fain, cu o atmosfera deosebită ce imită jungla și ale sale vietăți care din din când în când ne anunțau că s-au trezit la viață. Localul a fost recomandat chiar de doamna din recepția hotelului așa că am mers pe mâna ei. Mâncarea banală, dar un pic prea scumpă (cu specific exotic), dar cam așa e peste tot prin parc unde un burger ajunge la aproximativ 30 de EUR porția. Per familie poți cheltui lejer undeva la 80 de EUR fără să alegi un meniu cu pretenții.

Sau poți cheltui chiar foarte mult în restaurantele cu meniu complet și personaje celebre care se plimbă prin local sau se așează cu tine la masă, cum ar fi de exemplu Cafe Mickey (specific italienesc) – 65EUR/adult și 35 EUR/copil. Restaurantul principal al hotelului Sequoia – Hunter’s Grill and Beaver Creek Tavern este și el unul ce promite un meniu internațional însă nu l-am testat tocmai pentru că practică sistemul de all you can eat la un preț destul de ridicat (37 EUR/adult și 25 EUR/copil fără băutură inclusă). Cât Dumnezeu să mănânci? 🙂

Pentru prânz am ales Restaurant Hakuna Matata, un fast food drăguț cu tematică Lion King, unde am avut norocul să găsim o masă liberă chiar pe terasă, unde ne-am putut bucura de muzica live prestată de trei domni africani. Prețurile nu sunt foarte piperate aici, meniul fiind aproximativ 15 EUR de persoană și mâncarea e decentă (gen KFC să spunem).

Următoarea și ultima cină din Disneyland, am servit-o la Vapiano, renumitul lanț de restaurante cu specific tradițional italian, unde mâncarea e mereu foarte bună. Restaurantul este amplasat chiar în afara parcului, imediat lângă una dintre ieșiri, practică prețuri decente și mâncarea este gustoasă și mai pe gustul nostru comparativ cu alte restaurante din parc.

Ar mai fi fost vreo două localuri pe care doream să le testăm însă le lăsăm pentru următoarea vizită evident. Unul dintre ele ar fi Planet Hollywood însă văzusem câteva review-uri care ne-au făcut să ne îndreptăm către Rainforest Cafe. Cel mai ieftin “restaurant” din parc este evident McDonalds care este și cel mai mare de pe teritoriul Franței :).

Ca variantă mai ieftină de papa, în parc se poate intra cu sandwich-uri sau chiar băuturi la purtător. De altfel obișnuiam să luăm cu noi câte ceva de ronțăit de la micul dejun tocmai pentru că Marei i se face foame pe la 11 și nu mănâncă orice. Așa că fructele deshidratate sau proaspete luate de noi la pachet din hotel au ajutat mult.

Așa ca o concluzie a celor două zile petrecute în parc, pot spune că a fost intr-adevăr o experiență de NEUITAT, poate și pentru că a fost o premieră pentru toți trei. Scriam că am așteptat să avem un copil că să fim din nou copii și asta este complet adevărat. De fapt de când a venit Mara pe lume am învățat să ne bucurăm mai mult de lucrurile simple, ale copilăriei, de povești, de fantezii, de imaginație. Cred că de fapt asta face Disneyland-ul din om, scoate ce e mai bun din tine, făcându-te să uiți, măcar un pic, de viața ta de adult implicat, îngrijorat, îngândurat, ocupat.

Cam așa s-a încheiat minunata noastră vacanță din Franța, de care cu siguranță o să ne aducem aminte cu drag mereu. Un mix de sentimente, de locații, de experiențe, care mai de care mai faine sau mai autentice. Am reușit să creăm o vacanță “neobișnuită” petrecută în mai multe locații din Franța tocmai pentru a ne bucură toți 3 la fel de mult, așa cum doar noi știm să o facem împreună.

On a Monday, around 5PM, we arrived at the Sequoia Lodge Hotel, located in the famous Disneyland amusement park. The hotel is very cool, with extraordinary friendly staff and impeccable services provided to its guests. I was pleasantly surprised at the reception where Mara received from the lady in charge an official Disney badge with her name as a welcome gift at Disneyland. It was not just a lucky day for her bur also for me as it seemed. Normally, rooms with a balcony are not available for reservations, but after nicely asking for one, we actually got it :). Yupiii! We had just called the hotel before proceeding with an online booking to see if it was possible to select one with a balcony and the answer was that there are no such rooms available for guests. Surprise, they have some, but very few. Lucky us, we got one! We did not have very high expectations because the park is quite commercial and the opinions are in general very different, but what we saw there was really wow. It’s a place we wanted to visit since a long time ago, but we patiently waited for Mara to grow so that we could enjoy the fun in the park together. Once we got there, we realized that we were super excited and so after Mara’s 45-minute sleep we ran to the park. In fact, I’ve woken the baby so we can catch the daily afternoon parade of the Disney characters 😀 Bad parents, what can I say!

The Sequoia Lodge Hotel is open since 1992, but the subsequent renovations of the entire facility says its word. It is surrounded by a lot of vegetation, located just off the shores of Lake Disney, and the interior of the building, although classic, made us feel really welcomed there :). The spatious room decorated in a classical American style and with a Disney theme design (Bambi in our room) has all the necessary equipment including Nespresso machine for coffee and an electric kettle for tea lovers. I’m not a Nespresso fan but in the absence of a good coffee I sacrificed myself with some sips of a bitter coffee. Although officially the hotel is declared to have 3 stars, I can say that both the atmosphere and the services available in the hotel places it relatively easy in my personal top 10 in terms of accommodation abroad. I didn’t get the chance to visit US (yet) but it is wuite clear that the Americans really know hot to build a hotel and offer qualitative services. The employees in the park and the hotel are also very well trained and apparently the smile is part of the responsibilities mentioned in the job description.

Accommodation and park entrance tickets were purchased directly on the Disneyland Paris website, fortunately we purchased a good offer which included 2 nights of accommodation at Sequoia Lodge and entrance tickets in both Disneyland parks for 3 days (35% total discount on batch). In addition, we selected the extra Golden Forest Club option, which includes breakfast, non-alcoholic beverages available in the bar until 22:30, faster service in the reception (which is separate from the main one) but also one Fast Pass access per day per person in the park. I’ll explain what this means and why it’s good to have it :). The total price for this package was approximately 900 EUR for all three of us.

A significant advantage of staying in one of the Park’s hotels is the opportunity to meet Disney characters in the lobby of the hotel, therefore giving you the opportunity to photograph yourself with the most known cartoon characters. The joy of the kids when being close to Mickey or Pluto is indeed priceless. Those who celebrate their birthday in the hotel can also enjoy the presence (short one) of the character during breakfast.

The combo packege offer was a very good ome, considering that a separate purchase of access tickets in the park for all 3 of us and accommodation on top would have assumed a cost equal to or higher than what we actually paid. As a side note, the breakfast bought separately at Hotel Sequoia costs somewhere around RON 100 per day per person, rather expensive I would say.

Summary of Golden Forest Club Benefits – Hotel Sequoia Lodge:

I have to admit, we did not take 100% advantage of all the above mentioned benefits, but the price we paid extra covered what we would have purchased for am extra fee anyway, so I can say we made a good choice. The Golden Forest Club extra is not compulsory but for us the breakfast is very important. And indeed it was a great decision to make taking into consideration the variety of products available in the main restaurant – from eggs, ham, French cheeses, fruit to cakes with Marvel theme and other fresh pastry products.

If we do a simple calculation for what we would have paid only for the entrances to the two parks, the price would have been 620 EUR for all 3 of us (for 3 days). In the combo package we purchased, however, the accommodation as well as the already mentioned options were already included.

Hotel facilities

The hotel’s facilities are nicely varied, the only disadvantage being that the swimming pool was closed at the beginning of May for renovations. I say a disadvantage, not because it matters a lot to us, but the hotel has informed the guests about this. For those fond of swimming, I would mention that the pool will be reopened to the public on 31/07/2019.

The hotel is ten minutes away from the park entrance (walking) which meant a lot for us. It gave is the opportunity to go back to the hotel room for Mara’s daily nap and afetward go back and emjoy the fun in the park until late at night. For those who do not want to walk too much, especially those with very young kids, there is a bus that picks you up in front of the hotel and leaves you very close to the park entrance for free.

For those who want to travel from Romania to Paris just for visiting the wonderful park, there are numerous offers that also include flights from Bucharest. Make sure you check the official Disneyland website for early booking or last minute packages. As a matter of fact, they are already promoting good offers for 2020. RO agencies that offer various vacation packages for visiting the park are also guided by those offers promoted directly by Disneyland Paris representatives.

There are other good accommodation alternatives, such as Disney’s David Crockett Ranch or Les Villages Nature Paris, but they are out of the park and the price is close to the ones practiced in the park. You can nevertheless reach Disneyland by car, train or special shuttle services provided by the resorts. Visitors staying in Paris or even outside France, can easily reach the park by train (Gare de Nord -> RER B or D direction Chatelet Les-Halles), the park’s train station is located just outside the entrance.

In 2020 a new hotel will be open as part of the park and that is Disney’s Hotel New York – Art of Marvel, located right at the entrance to the park. Being the newest hotel in the amusement park, I am convinced that they will come up with very good deals and inbatable offers for a complete and amazing experience.

Having fun in the park

Disneyland is located 30 km from Paris and is divided into two large parks, named Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios, the latter being opened in 2002, ten years away from the first one. About 320 million people visited the park in 25 years since it was open and now I understand why. With over 12,000 permanent and seasonal employees, I can confirm that the services are impeccable regardless of the facility they serve – restaurants, hotels, shops, etc.

The two parks offer wonderful attractions for both children and adults, and to be honest, I still prefer those for children. The majority of the attractions for kids are available in Disneyland Park which is also divided into several areas with different themes (Main Street, Adventureland, Discoveryland, Fantasyland, Frontierland). As we went there together with Mara we had the opportunity to enjoy experiencing the park as a family whilst watching her being joyfull and happy to be there.

Still, there were some attractions that only us as adults tested, as these are not necessarily preferred by the little ones (eg. Phantom Manor).

I highly recommed the Disneyland app (available HERE in both App Store and Google Play) which, besides giving you access to the full map of the two parks, it also tells you what the waiting time is for each attraction in the park. The waiting time is not always 100% correct, but it’s okay so you can schedule your visit based on the queues as well. You can access information about the restaurants in the park or you can even check out the full list of attractions and schedule of shows or special events.

If I tell you the story of how it was the first ride we had in the park … We were hurrying to take a few rides in the first evening after we arrived, so we woke up, all three of us, in Big Thunder Mountain (see the movie by clicking on the link) :). I thought it was a light rider and obviously it was not. I was terrified, Mara was shocked, with eyes closed, daddy was happy and laughing all the way. Lucky us that Mara didn’t want to run away after the first experience in the park. She just mentioned that the first train is not something she would like to repeat.

I will not list all of the attractions in the park, there are too many, I will let you discover them once you get there 🙂 but I will list you my personal top which is obviously a bit different from Mara’s or Mugur’s as you can see below :). Attractions are wonderful, the costumes are exceptional and and decorations really cool as you see them only in cartoons / movies or maybe even as you imagine them just by reading the well known stories. The park’s spectacular sound system is manfactured by the high end Bose producer, with speakers everywhere both inside and outside the attractions. I did not expect to have so much fun in Ratatouille’s house or in Peter Pan’s world, flying through the stars with 3D eye-glasses.

We did not experience endless queues, but we did wait a little longer at the Studio Tram Tour in Walt Disney Studios (40 min). I expected the park to be more crowded, maybe May is not the busiest time of the year. What helped, however, was the Fast Pass access we were granted on a daily basis (one person per day access included in the Golden Forest Club package)) and we used it to enter the attractions where the line was too long for us. The Fast Pass guarantees you a quick entry but is not available for all the attractions of the park, each place signaling the availability of this extra option.

Make sure you don’t miss the daily character parades, which start at 17:30 and last for about an hour, Guardians of the Galaxy show (11:25 and 12:30 daily) or Marvel super heroes and evening shows organized after the park closing time (Disney Illuminations – screenings of visible lights accompanied by music on Main Street followed by a wonderful fireworks show). More information about the events and shows in the parks can be found HERE, but the program can be changed during the year.

Parks are full of shops, you can not hide even if you want to. I must admit it, I never saw this and I did not think that there was a place in this world with so many toy stores per square meter. Some who sell a full range of products with Mickey theme and others who sell mugs or pillows with all the characters ever created. It is very clear that the park is indeed a very commercial one, but it did not bother me as the kitsch shops near Bran Castle do. It brings joy to the children and the adults in the same time, of course, but maybe not that much when you have to pull out the wallet. We’ve somehow escaped “inexpensively” compared to what I’ve seen around so nothing to complain about.

The Food

Food is a hot topic in our house but you already know it :). So we knew it would not be something wow for us. Most restaurants offer American burgers menu, pasta with no taste, fried potatoes and crispy onion rings: D. Since most of the venues have offer quite the same menu in one way or the other, we have decided to try the Rainforest Café for the first diner in the park. The restaurant is part of the Disney Village, situated in the area with restaurants and the cinema of the park, a place with a special atmosphere that imitates the jungle and its living creatures, that from time to time woke up to life. The hotel was recommended by the lady at the hotel reception, so we decided to follow her advice. The food was mediocre and a bit too expensive (with exotic menu) but this is a general thing for the entire park where a burger gets to about 30 euros. Per family you can easily spend somewhere around 80 euros with no fine dining experience. Or you can spend even more in restaurants where famous characters walk around the place or even sit at your table, such as Cafe Mickey where a menu would cost 65EUR / adult and 35EUR / child. The main restaurant of Sequoia Hotel – Hunter’s Grill and Beaver Creek Tavern is also one that promises an international menu, but we didn’t go for this option just because the price per person was rather high (37 EUR / adult and 25 EUR / child without drink included) and besides that How much can you actually eat? 🙂

For lunch, we went for Hakuna Matata Restaurant, a cute fast food with the theme of Lion King, where we were lucky enough to find a free table on the terrace hence allowing us to enjoy the live authentic African music . The prices are not very high, the menu costs about 15 EUR per person and the food is quite decent (like KFC let’s say).

The last dinner in Disneyland was at Vapiano, the renowned Italian restaurant chain where food is always good. The restaurant is located just outside the park near one of the exits, practicing decent prices and offering tasty food or at least much more tasteful than other restaurants in the park.

There were some other places we wanted to visit, from gastronomical point of view of course, but we will leave them on our to do list for the next obvious visit. One of them was Planet Hollywood, but after having seen some reviews on the web we decided to go for Rainforest Cafe.

For those who would like to go for a more economical stay in the park, feel free to take sandwiches and drinks with you so you no longer need to worry about spending extra money on this. There is no interdiction on this. For example, we used to grab some snacks from breakfast as Mara gets hungry around 11 and she does prefer small bites for brunch :). So it helped a lot to have some dehydrated or fresh fruits with us. The cheapest “restaurant” in the park is obviously McDonalds, which is also the largest on the territory of France :).

As a conclusion for the two full days spent in the park (could have been three) I can say that it was indeed an unforgettable experience, maybe perhaps it was a first for all three of us. We were saying that we waited to have a kid in order to be children again, and that is completely true. In fact, since Mara came to this world, we have learned to enjoy more of the simple things, the childhood, the stories, fantasy and imagination. I think that’s what Disneyland makes of you, it brings out the best, making you forget, at least a little bit, of your adult life which often means being too involved, too worried, too ingenious and always busy.

That’s how we ended our wonderful holiday in France, a fantastic vacation we will always remember. A mix of authentic feelings, locations and experiences. We managed to create an “unusual” holiday spent in several locations in France so that all three of us can enjoy as much as we can together.
